The bank says it is working closely with police after one of its employees was attacked by unidentified assailants using a harmful substance.

Centenary Bank has spoken out following a shocking acid attack involving one of its employees, promising full cooperation with investigators as police search for the people behind the assault.

The Centenary Bank acid attack case has drawn concern within Uganda’s banking sector after staff member Patrick Katatanzi was reportedly attacked by unknown assailants who used a harmful liquid. New Vision reported that the incident prompted an official statement from the bank on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the bank said it had learned of the “unfortunate incident” involving Katatanzi and pledged to support authorities in ensuring the suspects are brought to justice.

The bank noted that it was providing all the necessary assistance to police investigators handling the matter. While details surrounding the motive and circumstances of the attack remain limited, the incident has renewed public concern over violent crimes involving acid and other corrosive substances in Uganda.

The Centenary Bank acid attack also sparked reactions online, with many Ugandans expressing sympathy for the victim and calling for tougher action against violent offenders.

Acid attacks remain among the most traumatic forms of violence because they often leave victims with severe physical and emotional injuries. Human rights organizations across Africa have repeatedly called for stricter regulation of corrosive substances and stronger penalties for offenders.

Centenary Bank, one of Uganda’s largest commercial banks, said it remains committed to supporting the ongoing investigation while standing with its employee during the difficult period.
