In a groundbreaking move to foster innovation and knowledge transfer, the Africa-Asia platform has been launched by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Japan. The initiative aims to enhance collaboration between Africa and Asia, focusing on youth entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation. The launch event took place at the United Nations University in Tokyo, with the support of top institutions such as the University of Pretoria and the University of Tokyo.
A New Era of Africa-Asia Collaboration
The Africa-Asia platform seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technologies between the two continents. By bringing together researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, the platform will foster joint research and new business partnerships. With support from the Policy and Human Resource Development Grant (PHRDG), this initiative will also improve institutional research capacity and promote inter-university collaboration.
Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the African Development Bank Group, emphasized that this platform marks a crucial step in enhancing Africa’s development and addressing critical challenges such as migration and insecurity. He stressed that by focusing on youth-driven innovation and entrepreneurship, the platform will contribute to creating jobs, promoting investments, and fostering long-term economic stability across the African continent.
Fostering Green and Sustainable Development
The Africa-Asia platform aligns with Africa’s Vision 2030, aiming to drive sustainable development through innovation. By enhancing the skills and capacities of young people in both continents, the platform will provide them with the necessary tools to navigate emerging sectors like green energy, technology, and entrepreneurship. In addition, the platform will support the development of new policies that promote inclusive economic growth across Africa.
As the collaboration between Africa and Asia deepens, this platform serves as a critical tool in bridging knowledge gaps and creating solutions that benefit both regions. The initiative will also enable African entrepreneurs to gain access to new markets and technologies, helping them grow their businesses and contribute to the continent’s economic prosperity.
