UGEFA I&M Partnership to Scale Green Finance in Uganda
The UGEFA I&M partnership marks a major milestone in supporting Uganda’s green economy. Launched at Protea Hotel in Kampala, this initiative aims to expand financing and advisory support for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) driving sustainable solutions across clean energy, eco-tourism, waste management, and green mobility. Backed by the European Union and implemented by adelphi global gGmbH, the collaboration strengthens Uganda’s commitment to environmental resilience.
Empowering SMEs for Sustainable Growth
Through this partnership, SMEs can access tailored funding and technical support, enabling them to adopt sustainable practices and scale operations efficiently. Robin Bairstow, CEO of I&M Bank Uganda, highlighted that finance can be a powerful tool for environmental and social impact. “Whether it’s clean energy adoption or financing irrigation systems to boost agricultural yields sustainably, we’re committed to building a greener, more inclusive future,” he said.
Institutional Support and Inclusive Opportunities
I&M Bank’s Chief Business Officer, Gibson Nangono, praised UGEFA’s role in shaping Uganda’s sustainable enterprise sector. The European Union also welcomed the agreement, emphasizing that this collaboration fosters inclusive growth while unlocking the potential of Uganda’s green economy.
Opening Doors for Green Entrepreneurs
UGEFA Project Lead Christine Meyer encouraged Ugandan entrepreneurs to apply for the program, noting that the partnership will empower more green SMEs to scale impact and drive innovation. Applications are now open at www.ugefa.eu/apply using the code IMBANK25.
